Reform or Die Zimpost Ordered

ZIMPOST facing depressed earnings and facing closure in the face of social media platforms, and an increased appetite to ditch the traditional forms of communication has been urged to step up to the digital world.

Minister of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services, Jenfan Muswere made the challenge while officially commissioning the Zimpost digitalization program and Zimbabwe mail online platforms at Harare International Conference Centre.

Muswere encouraged Zimpost to ensure that all services are “e-enabled” and Zimpost must evolve to be a smart post office.

‘’I want everything to be ‘E’ enabled at the post office, e-commerce, being launched today, e-Government services, e-education to help students access educational sites at Community Information Centers, e-health to facilitate telemedicine activities. Zimpost must evolve to be a smart Post office that delivers next-generation services,’’ said Muswere.

The new platforms will allow Zimpost to entre spaces where it facilitates online shopping and delivery using its vast networks across the country.

“Today the digitalization journey of Zimpost has led us to an exciting national e-commerce platform at the www.zimbabwemail post address. This platform facilitates online shopping, that is customers select items onto a shopping cart, confirm their order, make payment and Zimpost renders delivery logistics both locally and international,” said Muswere.

Zimposts is a government-owned postal and courier services company. The company was part of the Posts and Telecommunication Corporation before the government unbundled PTC into Netone, Telone, Zimpost and POSB.

Zimbabwe Postal services have been in existence for over 130 years and Zimpost celebrated its 20th Anniversary only two months ago.

In support of Muswere, Poster Master General of Zimpost Mr Moyo said they were going to promote domestic trade and local purchases, facilitating and promote MSMEs to access the global market and to transform national delivery services and offer national online shop services needed during emergency time.
