Health minister thrown under the bus

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has thrown minister of health ObediahMoyo, under the bus over allegations of massive corruption.
Moyo who is facing serious allegations of corruption is currently out on a $50 000 bail and becomes the second minister to be kicked out by Mnangagwa over corruption allegations.
The Minister is accused of having gone against all grain of sober security and business advice offered to him as he allegedly single handed dished out absurd and lucrative deals to dodgy companies including a USD$60 million deal to Drax International.
Through the Chief secretary to his office, Mnangagwa said he had used his powers to fire Moyo unpopular in the ministry from the day of his appointment.
“In terms of section 340, subsection (1 )paragraph (1) as read with section 104 subsection (1) of the constitution of Zimbabwe has removed Dr Obediah Moyo from the office of cabinet minister with immediate effect for conduct inappropriate of a government minister,” reads part of the firing notice.
Moyo’s sacking comes at a time the health sector is riddled with problems including shortages of critical drugs, machinery and basic accessories. Staff moral is at an all time low with nurses on strike, while some have been arrested for demanding better working conditions and a living wage.
In the face of all that, Covid 19 cases are on an increase with a total of 734 cases having been recorded thus far.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said of the 734, 113 were local transmission cases.
“Of the 734 confirmed cases, 113 are local cases. 88 of these local cases can be linked to known confirmed cases, while 25 cannot be immediately linked to a confirmed case,” she said.
