PENSIONERS will end of the month get a 100 percent once off discretionary bonus from the National Social Service Authority (NSSA).
The bonus will see the minimum benefit for a pensioner go up to $480 which is equivalent to USD$10 on the parallel market.
“The NSSA Board, in consultation with the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Paul Mavima, has awarded NSSA pensioners a once off discretionary bonus equivalent to a month’s pension to cushion NSSA pensioners from the general increase in the cost of living. The bonus will be paid together with the April pension,” said NSSA board chair Author Manase in a statement.
The adjustment comes at a time a 2kgs of rice is selling at $80 00, 2 liters of syrup is $75 00 and a 10 kg bag of mealie meal is selling for $80.
NSSA last reviewed the pensions five months ago increasing the payouts from $80 to $240, much to the disgust of pensioners who said they made most of their contributions in USD.
“The discretionary bonus comes five months after NSSA increased the minimum monthly pension from ZWL$80 to ZWL$200 for the Pension and Other Benefits Scheme (POBS) and the minimum worker’s pension from ZWL$80 to ZWL$240 for the Accident Prevention and Workers Compensation Scheme (APWCS). Prior to the review, the Authority awarded a similar discretionary bonus in July of the same year,” said NSSA.
